Richard used to be an announcer at the local railway station where he was "spotted" by a BBC executive who thought if he could make train cancellation details interesting for commuters he could probably do a good job on the radio! Eighteen years later, Richard is hosting the late-night weekend phone-in across the BBC stations in the South and East of England. He also co-wrote the popular BBC Comedy series, 'Oh Dr Beeching' with the legendary David Croft (which is out on the 1st October on video and DVD!). Richard has also picked up several prestigious awards during his time with BBC Radio Cambridgeshire. He was voted 'Most Popular Regional and Local Presenter' in a national magazine poll and received a special 'Millennium Award' from a regional newspaper for 'Outstanding Work in the Community'. The pinnacle of his many achievements so far is being awarded the MBE in June 2000. E-mail Richard on: richard.spendlove@bbc.co.uk |
