How difficult is it to make a video that stars the band?

Besides live performance, music videos are an essential way to see how our favourite musicians look and move. But when directors have ambitions beyond just capturing a straight performance, how much effort, involvement and acting on the part of the musicians can they demand?

Kinga Burza has shot videos with Kate Nash and Calvin Harris, and was nominated as best new director at this year’s Creative and Design Awards. Dougal Wilson has made videos with Will Young, The Streets, Dizzee Rascal and Jarvis Cocker, and won numerous awards for his work. Music video commissioner John Hassay of Colonel Blimp has worked with artists including Fatboy Slim and Basement Jaxx.

Together they’ll be in discussion with Nemone from BBC 6 Music about the trials and tribulations of making cool videos that feature musicians.
