what happened
Minute by minute report, via text message, by the BBC's Ian Sadler.
- 21.02 - Ray takes to the stage to a huge applause. Sharply dressed in shirt and jacket he straps on a green guitar and launches into 'Everybody Else'.
- 21.03 - 'Good Times Gone' has the audience singing and dancing.
- 21.06 - Now it's time for a crowd solo at end of 'Good Times Gone'. Eventually they get the timing right.
- 21.10 - Tonight is the first time Ray's played Roundhouse since he was here with his old band. "£10 fine everytime I mentions The Kinks", he says. First tenner gone.
- 21.13 - Next up 'The Tourist' from his first solo album. Ray dedicates it to his time spent in America.

I have seen Ray three times this year but this was an amazing concert and I loved every minute of it. "Days" still brings a massive lump to my throat and the hair on the back of my neck tingleIt is a shame that he doesn't get more recognition for the most amazing catalogue of songs he has produced over the last forty years. Please bring out the DVD.

The BBC and Roundhouse promised something new and exciting with the Electric Proms and, for me, they delivered with the combination of Ray Davies, Duke Special, the Roundhouse and the audience on the 28th October. It was probably the best concert my wife and I have attended.Ray performed on top form and that special moment for me was to hear Ray, his band, and Crouch End Festival Choir perform "Shrangi-la". I have watched it again on the web and feel a panic attack coming on knowing it will disappear after the 4th November.Come on BBC, this is musical history! Make it available for all to enjoy for years to come. Thanks to all concerned in making it night to cherish for all time.

Wow... What a glorious song, murdered by that massive berk Borrell... Blimey, that is an impressive bit of rubbish. What were you thinking Ray?
Jackie Doherty
Ray and his music have been part of my life for 30+ years. I have seen him in concert with The Kinks and on his own and have always thought he was getting better and better with vintage.Tonight I have watched his Electric Proms concert and, for the first time ever in All of my concert attending, have been moved to tears. Ray's rendition of 'Days', supported by the choir of 'Angels', was special beyond belief. Thankyou Ray....for all the Days. x

I watched the concert online as well as on BBC2 and afterwards on the red button. I thought there were moments of utter magic in this performance, culminating in a truly wonderful rendition of Imaginary Man - this song could become a classic like Waterloo Sunset and Days! Ray Davies is a special talent and we are privileged to have him among us to entertain and enlighten us.

Rock or pop ,this man is pure genius. All these classic tracks, sounding great with the new band, seen him twice this year.Love the new album,"W.M.C., Morphine song, one more time ,hymn for a new age,"and the immortal "imaginary man",new classics,go out and buy youll love it.Its time this man was knighted,"Sir Ray" thanks for everything ,and The Crouch End Chorus added a new dimension to those songs.Wish it was out on DVD.

One of the best Ray shows I have ever seen. The Crouch End Festival Chorus added a beautiful touch to Shangri-La, Days and Waterloo Sunset (and a comical one to Dedicated Follower of Fashion). They were indeed "Angels". I feel honoured to have been present at such an event, and delighted to know that Ray has made many new fans at this gig.Although I am exceedingly grateful that Ray was given this chance to show his magic, why on earth didn't the Beeb televise his whole show and give the viewers a treat? Thanks for a great evening Ray!Olga
craig davies
i wanna thank you for introducing me to ray davies he was awesome and i only watched bbc red button coverage

Thought it was great especially the songs involving The Crouch End Festival Chorus,Ray Davies has probably written more songs than any other pop star and I think he's a credit to this country
Nicky Cole
What a fantastic show. You only have to look at the crowd to see he is loved by a huge age range. Cant stop singing "I am, I am - imaginary". Could be a huge hit. Release it as a single Ray!
~rose~
RAY DAVIES is a genius and the best songwriter of his generation. Thanks, RAY & BBC for a MAGICAL show. Please hurry back to the USA, RAY! And don't forget to bring ARTHUR!

Just amazing, best gig i've ever been to, and will certainly stick in my memory for years to come. Waterloo Sunset was just perfect
brian gibbard
this gig clearly shows that ray is crying out for a kinks reunion..come on you two,get your acts together and brighten my days up once more.god save the kinks
Paul H (Bradford)
Bill, yes very good , I think you got a mention. Not wanting to disagree with Bill but most of Ray's shows are up there with the best and not just this one, so all you non regulars out there turn up next time and see another great show. The new album is very good, the rest is well up to the standard of the 4 tracks played from it . Well done to the band, the chorus, backing singers and JB. Nice to see Ian Gibbons.
howard woodley
must agreewith tim my era but never saw them live but that show was something else and it still feels modern i think some of our modern groups have looked back and found what rock is all about
Derek Hayward
Kinks and Ray Davies fan since they started, seen them loads of times. This gig was amazing.
Bob Wooler
This guy Ray Davies just gets better, i have seen Ray and the kinks many times since 1964 and he is performing as well as he was when he was a much younger punk. long may he continue. well baby i feel good!! Bob wooler.
ned
Kinks melodies tailor-made for the choral treatment...a new lease of life.

Fantastic gig - loved the intimacy of the show and the real talent of the man shone through. Is there any way I can get a DVD or download of the concert. Just watched it again online. Please please make it available - happy to pay for it!

Another great show, saw Ray in concert in May in York.Bought single "You really got me" back in 64 when I was 15,still a disciple Mr.Davies.Remember the Queens Hall back in Leeds, where you played several times. Also by coincidence one of my daughters is living in Muswell Hill at the moment.Spooky!
Martin
Brilliant,Should be the poet laureate
Tim
Coming up to 60 - never got to see the Kinks when they and I were new. Really made up for it last night. Best gig I've ever been to.
