Roundhouse

Saturday 27 October

James Chapman makes experimental dream-pop on a multi-track recorder, sans computer. His debut LP, 'We Can Create' was nominated for the 2007 Mercury Prize and with his five piece band, he supported Bloc Party for the BBC Electric Proms.

what happened

Minute by minute report, via text message, by the BBC's Matt Humphreys.

  1. 19.23 - Camden's Roundhouse is filling up. People are either nursing their first pint or sitting on the floor texting their mates. Crazy kids!
  2. 19.26 - For a 'bedroom' genius, James Chapman aka Maps has a load of gear set up on stage for the band's performance tonight.
  3. 19.33 - Lights go down, Maps walk on stage. James is on the beer.
  4. 19.36 - Opening track is 'So Low, So High' and its obvious straight off why they draw comparisons with Spiritualised and Grandaddy.
  5. 19.37 - Great start and the Bloc Party loyalists show some love.
