Leeds boys Kaiser Chiefs have become one of the most successful contemporary rock bands. Combining forces with esteemed music producer and composer David Arnold, the show featured special orchestral arrangements of their songs as well as the Ukelele Orchestra of Great Britain and the Dhol Foundation drummers.

what happened
Minute by minute report, via text message, by the BBC's Sam Bailey.
- 20.29 - The stage for The KCs is looking great. Upright piano and hammond with the usual drums and guitars. All bathed in Electric Proms purple light.
- 20.49 - Serious light dimmage now. And from my vantage point upstairs, the band in the wings. I reckon it's gonna be a big 'un.
- 21.08 - Drummer Nick comes on alone to do 'Boxing Champ' on the piano. But here are the rest of the boys. Crowd goes wild.
- 21.10 - 'Love's Not A Competition'. That's a massive orchestra behind that curtain.
- 21.14 - This is the 'Modern Waaaaaaay'. Crowd have their hands firmly in the air.
- 21.16 - The first bouncing of the night for the most recognisable intro of the last ten years - "every day, I love it more and more"!
- 21.19 - Ricky gets them going big time by standing on his monitor speaker and clapping.
- 21.20 - He flings the mic in the air and runs away from it to let it clatter to the ground with a whining thud.
- 21.21 - 'Thank You Very Much'. Video footage of moshing festival crowds are projecting floor to ceiling. Very impressive.
- 21.23 - "We're gonna do a song by a guy who played last night - he forgot to play it so we're gonna". 'Jet' by Paul McCartney and Wings. Top!
- 21.27 - Ricky shouts, "Everybody in the room put your hands in the air, even if you didn't pay for your ticket, and wave at my parents at home".
- 21.31 - Black and white pictures of crowds of suited business types and commuters fill the screens now. These full height visuals look ace.
- 21.32 - "I wanna hear more of you singin along. If you don't know the words just make em up. We do." More Ricky wisdom.
- 21.34 - The brass of the orchestra sounds great over 'Heat Dies Down'. Those strings are epic and David Arnold's influence is audible.
- 21.34 - The trademark mic flinging continues. It's like a yo yo in and out of the man's hand.
- 21.36 - Despite professing nerves, the Chiefs sound awesome. Certainly not average, like they claim everything is, nowadays.
- 21.38 - Ricky's practically crowd surfing, being held back by a burly security guy who has arms around his thighs. Sea of hands clamber at him.
- 21.40 - The band's love affair with their home town of Leeds continues. 'Highroyds' is a second album classic already.
- 21.43 - 'Na na na na na'. That's both me singing along, and the song title.
- 21.45 - Camera men and security alike can't keep up with Ricky as he tours the pit giving out high fives, handing the mic to fans.
- 21.47 - Chairs on stage? What the...? It's the Ukelele Orchestra of Great Britain.
- 21.48 - David Arnold is on stage with them. It's the most surreal version of 'Ruby' ever!
- 21.50 - This is bloody fantastic!
- 21.53 - The crowd love them too. Stomping and clapping for the ukes. Awesome. On to favourite b side 'Take My Temperature' now.
- 21.55 - Rick loves that thud of mic on ground doesn't he. He's off stage and reappears up on the bar having a pint, getting everyone to cheer!
- 21.57 - Showman doesn't come close. He kicks the mic stand mud, then joins Nick in battering a cymbal. "Watching the people get lairy..."
- 21.59 - The Arnold strings are back for a spine tingling affair. And yeah, the crowd are practically rioting. Epic horns too. Ronson eat your heart out.
- 22.00 - Girls are on shoulders and others are trying to climb the Roundhouse pillars. It's kicking off big time!
- 22.03 - 'The Angry Mob' is about the papers apparently - "They lie a lot, don't believe them", says Ricky.
- 22.05 - There's four guys with big drums on stage now - Dhol drums. Bringing an Asian flavour to the climax of 'The Angry Mob'. It's massive!
- 22.08 - The Dhol Foundation get a phenomenal ovation. It's incredible.
- 22.09 - Boos from the crowd as Ricky suggests it might be time for goodnight. Only kidding tho - time for 'Oh My God'. Sans Ronson this time though.
- 22.10 - If you told me this was a Bond theme I'd believe you. Arnold and the orchestra are ON FIRE again.
- 22.12 - It's the Proms, so we end with... 'Land of Hope And Glory'. Arms are waving furiously.
- 22.13 - Balloons fall from the sky and the crowd erupt. Their popping sounds like fireworks.
- 22.15 - Ukes, dhols, horns and strings all on stage for the big crescendo. Everyone realises how special this was tonight.
- 22.22 - No encore tonight, but how could you follow that? Truly mind blowing performance. Mission accomplished for Kaisers at the Electric Proms.

This has to the best set of the Electric Proms since it started. The band should do more music with the orchestra, The Dhol Foundation and Ukelele Orchestra of Great Britain added something special to each track. Absolutely brilliant and it left me wanting more.

It was pretty good, the ukuleles were a good addition to Ruby. Crowd wasn't too bad, except the people at the front who just stood there, its a gig - JUMP!!!!
