what happened
Minute by minute report, via text message, by the BBC's Ian Sadler
- 19.36 - Duke Special makes a unique entrance donning a horse mask and standing static on stage totally silencing the crowd.
- 19.40 - Onto the music. The dreadlocked Duke aka Peter Wilson starts tickling the ivories and belts out 'Brixton Leaves'. Ray Davies fans seem bemused.
- 19.43 - Duke tells us he is here to sing some songs... And so are we. Song sheets are distributed and we are divided into girls and boys.
- 19.45 - After a shaky start the girls and boys join in with 'I'm Gonna Love You Til You Love Me Back'.
- 19.48 - Next song is 'I Feel For You' - a Chaka Khan cover. No audience participation but one of band gets to bang the side of a big drum.

A superb set from Duke Special: engaging, mesmerising, melodic and entertaining. Musically, to a very high standard. Was the middle eight of "Freewheel" altered in honour of the Ray Davies, I wonder? To Peter et al: It was wonderful to see and hear you play once more.

Another Gill!
We were there, enjoying the sing-alongs! Fantastic to see someone who's not afraid to be original, brave and even a little eccentric! Love the rag-tag band of musicians playing all the different instruments. He is a very talented singer/songwriter/musician and a great showman.
