what happened
Minute by minute report, via text message, by the BBC's Matt Humphreys.
- 21.07 - Bloc Party are joined by a choir! 'Song for Clay' is perfect.
- 21.08 - The Roundhouse is packed. Must be the youngest, best dressed crowd of the week.
- 21.11 - 'Waiting for the 7.18' sounds monumental with the choir. The mosh pit is heaving. Kele has declared it a special night.
- 21.13 - Kele sings accapella on the intro to 'Where Is Home' and the crowd join in.
- 21.16 - Some lads are havin' it at the front throwing each other around. What would their mum's think. I suppose they might like the choir bits.
- 21.18 - Kele quietens the crowd for the choir intro to 'Banquet' and out comes everyones camera phones.
- 21.22 - Looking down from the balcony legs and arms are flying everywhere.
- 21.23 - 'Banquet' was special. Kele checks the crowd are still into it.
- 21.26 - 'Kreuzberg' gets a rare live outing. The 'bloc heads' still know all the words.
- 21.28 - Kele narrowly avoids being hit by a green flash trainer!
- 21.31 - Russell's guitar leads hand claps on the intro to 'uniform'.
- 21.34 - Kele plays guitar with his teeth. Ace. The choir take 'Uniform' to another level like this was the way it was always intended to be heard.
- 21.37 - Kele: "This isn't as nerve wrecking as I thought". He suggests taking the choir on tour.
- 21.40 - 'Price of Gasoline' proves a favourite from the band's debut. Russell cranks up the squealing guitars.
- 21.44 - Kele shows off his doctor's note for his bad throat! He shouldn't be playing so he dedicates 'This Modern Love' to his worried mum watching at home.
- 21.49 - 'The Prayer' sounds huge, but the crowd are a bit suprised to see the band leave the stage. The roadies bring out some chairs.
- 21.55 - They're back, but just Kele and Russell to play an acoustic version of 'Sunday'. Unusual to see them sat down!
- 21.58 - Kele gets fidgetey and moves down to the front row and a few lucy fans get him singing the track to them.
- 22.01 - Matt and Gordon come back on stage. Kele finds a credit card thrown on the stage. Matt puts it in his back pocket. Call the cops!
- 22.06 - New single 'Flux' is greeted like an old favourite.
- 22.10 - Matt is off drum duties as 'SRXT' begins and gets more hand clapping going, they love a bit of that.
- 22.13 - Screams of delight as they start up 'Helicopter', and the venue erupts.
- 22.18 - Kele ushers the band off stage, the crowd's foot stomping says they want more.
- 21.23 - Back for an encore and Kele is asking for help on vocals. The man has ignored doctor's orders so it only seems polite. 'The Pioneers' builds and builds...
- 22.24 - The band join arms and take a bow. They said that was that the best London crowd they'd played to in a long time. That was the best I've seen them.
- 22.25 - The lights go up and the grease soundtrack plays over the speakers. Random.

So so so amazing, what a sweaty, heaving, ear drum pleasing night, choral backing added so much to the punk "emotional boy rock" that i love Bloc Party for, thank you so much BBC, Exmoor singers and of course Bloc Party!

I was singing in the choir with Bloc Party on saturday night and it was the best live gig I've ever done. The atmosphere was incredible and everyone looked like they were having an amazing night. My thanks to the band and BBC for managing the concert so well, the lighting and sound were fantastic. I hope Kele takes us up on the offer of going on tour with him!

Oh baby this gig was awesome. It has got be one of the best I've been too. The choir added so much to the already great songs. Uniform had to be the best.

Bloc Party are easily the best band of our generation they put so much effort into what they do best, just the odd smile by kele shows that he is enjoying it..

Fabulous. I privilege to have been there. I was sceptical about a choir being involved but it was brilliant.
