The whole point of doing a gig is a feedback thing between the artist and the audience.
John Peel Night:
Squarepusher
Thursday 26 October 2006
Electric Ballroom, Camden, London
Tom Jenkinson aka Squarepusher has been fusing electronica with jazz and drum and bass since he was 19. Signed to Warp records, he's one of the few dance artists who plays instruments onstage and has been described as a virtuoso bassist.
In 2005 he performed live at London's Royal Festival Hall
as part of the "Songs of Experience - a tribute to Jimi Hendrix
". His 12 minute performance was built up of a medley of Hendrix tracks played solely on the bass guitar with the use of effects. He's also performed at the same venue with the London Sinfonietta
but is usually found playing dark and sweaty clubs and bars around the world. He's obsessed with music and leads a solitary life where "whole days, weeks have vanished making music. I have virtually no conscious recollection of it."
Squarepusher played his only show in 2006 as part of Radio 1's second John Peel Night at the Electric Proms. An electrifying show, this was a rare chance to see Squarepusher perform with impressive LED production, and amplified bass hooked up to wizardry.

I first saw Tom on the Culture Show, and I was hooked straight away - atm, I'm trying to find out which albums of his that I'll like, and then can buy. I loved all the songs he played that night, however, I don't know their names (I recognised Hello Meow and Exciton though), so basically, I'm wondering what tracks he played, as I can't find that anywhere. Cheers :)

What a wonderful set, it was a great night. Tom is a master! He wired the crowd, those amazing LED screens were the cherry on top. Most of the crowd were there to see Tom alone it has to be said. Cheers Tom, Cheer to the BBC... and big thanks most of all to John.
