Only 18, Kyra was raised in Acton, London by her English mother and Domincan father. Whilst growing up, she was influenced by her parents' extensive record collection including jazz, reggae, funk and classic soul.
When Kyra was just 15, neo-soul star Musiq Soulchild
invited her over to America after hearing her sing at a London gig, but a combination of school and Kyra's love for the UK kept her feet firmly rooted on home soil.
Since then, Kyra has recorded a number of self-written tracks and performed on various radio stations. Inevitably, the labels have started to show interest and offers to release her debut album have materialised. At the moment however, she’s sensibly keeping her options open.
Kyra was selected for Next Stage by BBC 1Xtra's 100% Homegrown.
