Basement Jaxx presents
The Crazy Itch Club
Sunday 29 October 2006
KOKO, Camden, London
Watch online
They finished up Glastonbury in fabulous style last year, so who better to bring the BBC Electric Proms party to a close than London's own, Basement Jaxx? Rather more intimate than a field in Somerset, Camden's KOKO was to play host as Felix, Simon and their 20 strong crew got the crowd rocking.
A rather energetic Kossack dance troupe started the proceedings, a truly remarkable sight that is unlikely to be seen again in Koko anytime soon. Then came The Housebreakers, with their rather saucy dancers and their own brand of 2Tone House. The trio from Birmingham and London are no strangers to the Jaxx boys - singer Slarta John provided vocals for 'Jump and Shout'.
Then after some brilliant mashups from the Jaxx on the decks, the band were ready to take to the stage. With a constant flow of amazing guest vocalists, the pace was as frenetic and upbeat as ever. We got to enjoy new tunes 'Take Me Back To Your House' and 'Lights Go Down' (featuring vocalists Martina Bang and legend Linda Lewis) but it was the oldies that really took the roof off - the set ended with 'Jump and Shout' and 'Bingo Bango' with the entire Jaxx crew on stage - and a KOKO audience at their feet.

Your thoughts on Basement Jaxx:

I don't think I've ever been to a gig with so many smiling faces. It was just incredible, like a big party. I loved the Russian dancers. The Housebreakerz might have done better if they had not alienated half the audience with their porno-esque dancers, which certainly made most of the people I was with uncomfortable. Still, I've checked out their music since and they aren't as bad as I thought. Anyway, back to the Jaxx...I actually had tears of happiness in my eyes, that's how good their perfornace was. I loved their stage-set up as well, the lighting was brilliant. Having so many people on stage at once was in no way detrimental to the performance, it just made it so much better. I walked home with a smile on my face and with a buzz that lasted for days. I also have a massive crush on Felix Buxton now, the man is quite obviously the sexiest beast on the dance scene.

WOW! what more can I say, just one word to round Basement Jaxx's performance off!!! As soon as I got home I was trying to find more tickets for when they are playing again next! The song 'Jump & Shout', was exactly what happened, the crowd was going crazy, what an atmosphere, a memory to never forget!!

I really enjoyed the Housebreakerz (Support act), altough the dancers where a little to raunchy for me, but the music was fantastic. I hope to see more of them soom in the future.. C ya.. x

Basement jaxx were brillant, saw them when they supported Robbie they were brill then, but this was so much better. Need to see them again.

I was right at the front in the middle & the entire set was awesome.. It was the first time I'd seen them live & I was blown away by everything.. The only downside for me was having the people directly behind me continually apologising for crushing me against the railing. Other than that though the whole night was jumping & Well worth going to see.

Oh my god, what a night!!! Just did not stop dancing all night. Had to travel from Leicester to the gig but well worth it. Some quality tracks played from the new album and a couple of the oldies. Awesome live. Loved it.

Wow- still suffering but boy was it worth it! Plenty of old, plenty of new and all wrapped up in a great big shiny happy neon coloured night! fantastic!!! Shame about the support act..one word... scary

Absolutely amazing. The energy of their live performance makes their records sound flat in comparison. Beg, borrow or steal a ticket to see them.

The Jaxx absolutely rocked - brought the house down! And what an encore, can't wait to hear it again online. One down side was that they started so late and therfore everyone was subected to an entirely inappropriate support act, in the shape of the Housebreakers - truely awful!

I've been a massive Jaxx fan since back in the day and have been going to their nights for over 10 years now. I haven't seen them play a live gig in a while and they BLEW ME AWAY last night - I had such an awesome time and could've danced the hwole night away if hadn't have been a school night! Koko was a nice intimate venue and I think it matched the Jaxx ethos of keeping things special. I left as Graeme Sinden was playing one is usual fantastic sets and I so didn't want to. Hey you - my favourite tune from the album went down a storm - oh it was pure quality!!!! Well done boys and to all the singers and dancers - you were fab and I can't wait to see some more!
