BBC East Midlands Sports Awards 2008

The finalists are announced for all the categories in the BBC East Midlands Sports Awards this year.

The 6th annual awards will see Olympic and Paralympic medal winners battling it out for top honours.

The BBC’s John Inverdale is hosting the ceremony at the Royal Concert Hall in Nottingham on Thursday 27 November. 

 The event will be covered on BBC East Midlands Today, BBC Radio Derby, Leicester, Lincolnshire and Nottingham.

Here are the finalists for all the categories for 2008.

Sports Personality of the Year

Rebecca Adlington – swimming
Tim Brabants – canoe sprint
Ryan Sidebottom – cricket

Disabled Sports Personality of the Year

Sam Hynd – swimming
Chris Martin – athletics
Rob Welbourn – swimming

Team of the Year

Beeston Hockey Club
GB Short Track Speed Skating Team
Nottingham Rugby Club

Coach of the Year

Dave Brailsford – cycling
Bill Furniss – swimming
Claire Starkey – gymnastics

Junior Sportsperson of the Year

Becky Downie – gymnastics
Ellie Koyander – skiing
Lizzie Simmonds - swimming

Junior Disabled Sportsperson of the Year

Hollie Arnold – athletics
Jenni Cooke – swimming
Sam Hynd – swimming

Enterprise in Sport Award

Epm technology – Derbyshire
Sally Cowan Ltd – Derbyshire
Speedo – Nottinghamshire

Football Achievement of the Year

Julian Bennett – Nottingham Forest
Jack Lester – Chesterfield
Joe Mattock – Leicester City

Brian Clough Breakthrough Award
