Sir Joseph Channing is a Senior Appeal Court Judge and father to John Deed’s ex-wife, Georgina. He represents the traditional face of the law; highly educated and part of the schoolboy network.
Channing cannot stand new-age radicals like Deed, believing them to be unreliable. He detests the cult of modernism that, in his eyes, makes the law as changeable as a barometer.
"He thinks he is incredibly charming, prodigiously intelligent, awesome in his judgments, spell-bindingly witty and always right," jokes Sir Donald,. "He cannot understand why the series is not called Judge Joseph Channing. His daughter married an irritating whippersnapper who became, inexplicably, a High Court Judge. He’s only thankful that she had the good sense to divorce him!"
Sir Donald is delighted to be in the series: "It is joyous working with such people."
