Deed's rebellious daughter, Charlie, has followed in his footsteps and is embarking on a legal career of her own. She is working as a junior to Deed's sometimes lover, Jo, doing vital research and interviews.
However, Charlie finds it hard to differentiate between home and work life - and between Deed, her father, and Mr Justice Deed, the Judge.
Louisa Clein made her television debut in the first series of Judge John Deed. Starring opposite Martin Shaw proved was an incredible first job. "I couldn’t have asked for a better person," she says. "I learnt so much from him – he’s both generous and supportive."
Inevitably, as she finds her own independence, Charlie’s relationship with her father changes. On an intellectual level, the relationship becomes more equal. "Charlie, equally, supports but also criticises Deed on a professional level – and he takes her seriously," remarks Louisa.
