Doctor Who Prom, 2008

On 27 July 2008, the Doctor, Davros and other familiar friends and foes took the Royal Albert Hall by storm with the first ever Doctor Who Prom! This musical extravaganza was part of the Promenade Concerts, a tradition stretching back to 1895 and staged annually at venues across the UK.

The event was hosted by Freema Agyeman (Martha Jones) with Catherine Tate (Donna Noble), Camille Coduri (Jackie Tyler) and Noel Clarke (Mickey Smith) all guest presenting to rapturous applause!

Naturally there were monsters with the music and Julian Bleach reprised his role of Davros, turning up mid-way through proceedings with a threat to make the audience his slaves! A Sontaran played by Dan Starkey (Commander Skorr in series three), the Ood and a Dalek voiced by Nicholas Briggs were amongst the other strange, strange creatures making cameo appearances.

In terms of human personnel, the concert was conducted by Ben Foster and Stephen Bell and featured the BBC Philharmonic with solo performances by Melanie Pappenheim and Tim Phillips.

Music of the Spheres was one of the many highlights of the concert. This mini-episode was shown to the audience and featured the Tenth Doctor and the Graske in the TARDIS. At one point the Graske (played by Jimmy Vee) escaped from the ship to appear on stage but the Doctor soon had him in check... The adventure was written by Russell T Davies and had a musical theme with the Doctor even mentioning that he had featured in the first ever Proms playing the tuba!
