02
Inside the capsule, the Doctor has found two Daleks.

03
Covered in dust, they've been inactive for hundreds of years. But someone has removed a third Dalek...

04
A strange alien creature scuttles across the corner of the chamber, and then vanishes.

05
The Doctor sends Ben out to Lesterson's laboratory for a light.

06
A watching figure darts out of Ben's sight.

07
Inside the capsule, Polly tries to get the Doctor to admit to seeing the creature. It was like a strange, disembodied claw.

08
The Doctor is more worried about Lesterson. He thinks the scientist has already been into the craft and removed the Dalek. He may be trying to reactivate it.

09
One Dalek is 'all that is needed to wipe out this entire colony.'

10
Deputy governor Quinn has come to find the Doctor. Instead, he finds security chief Bragen in the Examiner's room.

11
The two argue - Bragen is under orders to prevent Quinn seeing the Examiner.

12
Quinn's rage spills over into violence. He warns Bragen not to block his way again.

13
Back in the laboratory, the Doctor is examining the craft. He is worried that it would be futile to warn the colony.

14
Lesterson is enraged to find the Doctor in his laboratory ... but fails to react to the Daleks.

15
The Doctor accuses him of removing the third Dalek. Seeing Bragen, he demands that they are all melted down. The Doctor storms off.

16
Once he's gone, Lesterson wheels his deactivated Dalek out of hiding. Lesterson sends an assistant, Resno, off to find Janley.

17
Lesterson is alone with his Dalek. 'There must be some way to bring you back to life - and I'm going to find it.'

18
Polly leads the Doctor, Ben and Bragen into the Examiner's quarters.

19
The Doctor demands Bragen destroys everything to do with the Daleks, immediately...

20
... only to be distracted by the contents of a fruit bowl.

21
Bragen advises caution. He explains that this is a sensitive time for the colony. Rebel groups are causing disruptions: there is discontent, secret meetings, newspapers and acts of sabotage.

22
Bragen leaves them, promising to set up a meeting with the governor before he leaves on a tour of the colony perimeter. Ben confronts the Doctor about his increasingly erratic behaviour.

23
The Doctor responds by digging a hidden microphone out of the fruit bowl. 'I never talk nonsense', he says touchily. 'Well, hardly ever.'

24
Ben suspects Bragen planted the bug. The Doctor is more concerned with finding out who summoned the real Examiner... and who killed him.

25
Lesterson is working on his Dalek, while his assistants Janley and Resno argue about the politics of the colony. He's eager to get the Dalek working before the Examiner interferes. 'He's got some phobia about these... Daleks.'

26
The Doctor is saying: 'I know the misery they cause, the destruction. But there's something else more terrible. Something I can only half remember...'

27
Bragen enters the Examiner's room. He apologises, since governor Hensell will be unable to see the Doctor before he goes on his tour.

28
The Doctor leaps up, jamming his hat on. He's determined to see the governor now. Bragen says the governor is unavailable, and leaves.

29
Once he's gone, the Doctor pauses, before throwing the door open. He's sure someone was listening outside it.

30
In his laboratory, Lesterson is pumping power into the Dalek. Resno and Janley are unimpressed - the machine is dead.

31
The sucker stick twitches slightly.

32
Excited, Lesterson orders more power pumped into the Dalek.

33
The creature's eye stalk moves feebly.

34
Suddenly, the sucker stick whips out, catching Janley by surprise. Lesterson is reassuring - obviously the sucker is some kind of hand. He can't work out what the short, stubby arm is for, though...

35
If only he could open the Dalek up. Suddenly, the machine stops reacting, although power is still pouring into it.

36
While the three humans study their instruments, trying to work out what stopped it from reacting, the Dalek's eye stalk comes quietly back to life.

37
It follows Resno around the room...

38
Until Resno, alarmed, catches it watching him. Lesterson is dismissive. 'You'll have us believe the thing has intelligence next.'

39
The Doctor creeps into the colony's communications room. He's determined to warn Earth about the Daleks.

40
He finds the communications operator unconscious and the equipment sabotaged.

41
He also discovers deputy governor Quinn hiding in the shadows with a pair of wire cutters.

42
Quinn is just beginning to explain how glad he is to see the Doctor when Bragen bursts in.

43
Quinn's innocent explanation is cast into doubt when the Doctor realises that the button he found at the crime scene comes from Quinn's jacket.

44
It's all that Bragen needs to arrest Quinn for sabotaging the equipment and attacking the Examiner.

45
Lesterson's attempts to reactivate the Dalek continue. Resno is reluctantly filming the experiment.

46
Resno is convinced the Dalek is tracking him around the room with both its eye stalk and its short, stubby arm.

47
The Dalek focuses in on Resno...

48
... and brings its gun to bear.

49
The Dalek fires, killing Resno instantly.

50
Resno's body crashes to the floor, and the Dalek deactivates.

51
Janley quickly reassures a concerned Lesterson that Resno is fine - just stunned. She'll sort everything out: Lesterson's work must continue.

52
Next day, still pretending to be the Examiner, the Doctor attends the Governor's enquiry into Quinn's behaviour.

53
Ben is convinced of Quinn's guilt: Polly isn't so sure.

54
Meanwhile, in the laboratory, Janley reassures Lesterson that Resno is resting up well. However, the Examiner must not find out about his accident - he'd shut down the experiment.

55
Lesterson isn't too concerned - his experiment is proving most successful, though he has removed the weapon from the Dalek.

56
He's all ready to unveil his project to the Governor. He and Janley get ready to surprise them.

57
Quinn's enquiry isn't going well. The evidence against him looks bad.

58
The Doctor is still most concerned about the Daleks. They may have been a motive for sabotaging the communications.

59
Lesterson interrupts the enquiry. He has something really exciting to show everyone.

60
The Dalek wheels into the room, much to Ben and Polly's alarm.

61
The Dalek advances on the stunned humans...

62
... before wheeling round to face the Doctor.

63
Much to the Doctor's horror, the Dalek recognises him at once. 'It knew who I was...'

64
Ben finally accepts that this man really is the Doctor. Lesterson, meanwhile, is proudly showing off his Dalek.

65
Not only can it respond to commands: it can also speak... 'I am your servant.'

66
The Doctor backs away in alarm, trying to shout his warning over the Dalek's voice. They are doomed - the Dalek will exterminate the entire colony.

67
The Dalek bears down on the Doctor, drowning out his warning with its declaration. 'I am your servant... I am your servant...'

NEXT WEEK: Can the Doctor convince the colonists of the Daleks' evil?
