02
The weed has taken hold inside the control rig complex.

03
The control room is swamped in the seething foam discharge from the toxic life-form.

04
Jamie and the Doctor gaze in horror at the possessed Robson, who stands calmly in its midst.

05
'You are going to help our new masters,' Robson tells the Doctor. 'They need you.' As the foam-covered Robson advances on the two men they become aware of the screaming Victoria behind him.

Victoria's Screams

06
'You cannot escape,' he insists. 'You will join us – you must join us.'

07
Robson exhales a cloud of poisonous gas. While the Doctor frantically covers his mouth Jamie runs past him to rescue Victoria.

08
Reunited once more the three travellers back away from Robson until the Doctor realises that Victoria's screams actually seem to repel him.

09
Robson cries out, as if in pain, and clutches his ears. He withdraws back into the foam, clearly weakened.

10
Jamie, Victoria and the Doctor emerge onto the roof of the complex to look for the waiting helicopter. They fail to attract the pilot's attention, so the Doctor suggests they instead use Robson's vacant vehicle.

11
Foam begins to follow them as they make their getaway.

12
They close the roof hatch and climb into the cockpit. The Doctor assumes the controls.

13
The Doctor succeeds in getting the helicopter airborne, and they fly away from the Control Rig complex.

14
The Doctor's attempts to fly in a straight line meet with spectacular, but dangerous, results.

15
The helicopter enters a hair-rising dive as the Doctor wrestles with the unfamiliar instruments.

16
The Doctor narrowly misses a collision with nearby buildings as he struggles to regain control of the machine.

17
Noticing the Doctor's acrobatic display, the pilot who brought them to the rig relays instructions over the radio.

18
With the pilot's help, the Doctor regains control over the helicopter.

20
Harris decides he has waited for the Doctor long enough and recommends immediate evacuation.

21
Megan Jones insists they allow him the last ten minutes of his allotted hour.

22
Harris reminds her that their only weapon against the weed – their oxygen store – is now depleted. Megan declares a red alert and decides to inform the Defence Minister in London of their plight.

23
The Doctor arrives with the bad news about Robson. He also tells them that on their way they stopped off at the Medicare Centre and discovered that Quill was completely free of the weed growth over his arm.

24
Thanks to Victoria's screams, the Doctor has deduced that noise is fatal to the parasitic weed. 'What are we going to do?' asks Megan. 'We make a noise, Miss Jones,' the Doctor replies, indicating the pipeline. 'We make an awful lot of noise!'

25
The Doctor suggests boosting the base equipment to transmit sound through the pipeline to hit the weed's nerve-centre. He asks Victoria to scream into a tape recorder, to make a loop of the piercing sound.

26
While they prepare to attack, the weed creature bursts through the observation pipe and begins to flow across the impeller room.

27
Perkins coaxes Victoria to scream into the microphone as the weed places increasing pressure on the nearby doors.

Victoria's Screams

28
With a crash the weed surges through a growing chasm in the impeller room door.

29
The crew rush to stem the flow, which pours into the room.

30
Their efforts are in vain, and the weed-infested foam surges past them.

31
Panic ensues as the foam infiltrates the last bastion of the ESGO refinery.

32
Within seconds it has swarmed across the floor, scattering crewmembers in its wake.

33
The situation is desperate. Harris again advocates evacuating but the Doctor tells him he has a plan.

34
As the foam continues to surge through the complex, the Doctor asks Harris for a few more minutes to prepare a device which, when linked to amplifiers, should produce a sonic laser sound-wave passing through the pipes.

35
Short-range sonic attacks on the weed will be dealt with by using hand-held speakers. Harris and the Chief Engineer run into the outside corridor, only to be confronted by a slithering mass of weed and foam which advances towards them.

36
They retreat to the control area, slamming the doors behind them.

37
The refinery staff are soon engulfed by the foam pouring out of the impeller room.

38
The Doctor struggles to activate the amplifier as the weed surrounds them.

39
Base personnel point the hand-held speakers at the approaching weed.

40
The room resonates with the cacophony of Victoria's taped scream.

Victoria's Screams

41
Victoria gasps as the air fills with the noise of the swelling weed and the sound of her own screams.

Victoria's Screams

42
The sound begins to take effect and the weed, together with its foam, begins to shrink back down the corridor.

43
The foam disappears to reveal the huge weed creature itself, which rapidly retreats.

44
As Megan thanks the Doctor, Victoria begins sobbing hysterically, traumatised after the latest in her series of ordeals as a TARDIS passenger.

45
The video screen relays a message from the Control Rig. Robson and Maggie Harris are both dazed but completely free of the weed's influence.

46
Furthermore, they also report that Van Lutyens is alive and well.

48
Robson admits the errors of his ways – both in doubting the Doctor and Harris.

49
As Robson retires from the gathering the Doctor announces that they must also be leaving.

50
Victoria's reservations have not gone unnoticed, however. 'You don't want to come with us, do you?' says the Doctor. She reluctantly tells him she'd like to stay. The Doctor asks Maggie if she would be prepared to care for the orphaned girl.

51
Maggie agrees to look after Victoria for as long as she'd like to stay, much to Jamie's chagrin. Victoria is to begin a new life in the unfamiliar surroundings of the gas drilling rigs.

52
Robson and his team undertake extensive checks on the rig machinery and pipes.

53
As the machinery is inspected, Robson re-establishes his previously strained friendship with the Chief Engineer. It's business as usual once more at ESGO.

54
While the Doctor goes for a swim, Jamie asks Victoria about her decision to stay behind in a time and place so far removed from her home.

55
Jamie realises her mind is made up. He kisses his tearful friend and says goodnight.

56
On the beach the Doctor and Jamie wave goodbye to Victoria and her new guardians.

57
She waves back as they climb into their dinghy and paddle towards the TARDIS.

58
Victoria chokes back her tears as she sees her friends recede into the distance.

59
With a familiar grating sound the TARDIS dematerialises.

60
A sullen Jamie watches Victoria diminish on the scanner screen and an awkward silence ensues.
'I was fond of her too, Jamie,' mutters the Doctor.
