GRANNIES BONNET - Colembine
GREY BIRD - Song Thrush Bit like mezel!
GRUTUS
I once mentioned this word on BBC Radio Devon and got some very interesting responses. The variations of this word that I received were: GRIDUS, GRAWDIS, GROOTUS, GROOT REST AND MOULD BOARD. On checking up it would appear that the original word was Groot Rest (Untilled soil being put to rest). It is a Devon name for the part of a plough that turns a furrow.
GROCKLE - Visitor
This is a fairly recent word, but has become very common, so I think that I have to include it. In Devon and Cornwall you will hear visitors referred to as 'Emmets', which is a very old word.
GUZZLE GUTS
- Someone who drinks to extreme.
"Thikky cheal be nort but 'n ole Guzzle Guts"
GWAIN - Going
