| From East Prawle to Salcombe | |

| | The walk along the South West Coast path from East Prawle to Salcombe is testing - but very rewarding.
It's about six miles long and takes a good three hours. |
| | | The first thing to be said about this walk is that you need to be reasonably fit.
And, unless you're up to walking all the way back again, a car at each end would come in handy!
It's a great stretch of the South West coast path, and it takes in Prawle Point - Devon's most southerly place.
Park up in East Prawle (where there's the Pig's Nose pub), and follow the narrow country lane down to the coast path.

At the path, head right - ie west - where you soon reach Prawle Point.
Here, you'll see the coast watch lookout which is manned by the National Coastwatch Institution.
It's windy here! And it was especially so on the day of our walk.
Prawle Point sticks out into the Channel and the windows at the coast watch have to be specially re-enforced to keep out the wild weather which sometimes hits the area. Such as on this particular day.

We popped in to say hello to the coast watch staff, who do a great job in helping to ensure those at sea are kept safe and sound in bad conditions.
The coast path between here and the Salcombe Estuary is dramatic, but it's also quite tricky in parts so you need to take care at times. Suitable footwear is an absolute must.
The undulating walk takes you by some lovely coves and dramatic cliffs, and you'll find yourself stopping to take in the views all the way along.
The going gets easier as you approach East Portlemouth at Salcombe Estuary. There's a lovely sandy beach here, where you can look across to Salcombe.

To get to Salcombe, you'll need to take the little passenger ferry across the river from East Portlemouth - it's a nice, relaxing way to end the walk.
It took us around three hours to complete the walk from East Prawle to East Portlemouth, although we did stop quite a bit to take photos and enjoy the views.
It was a challenging walk and at the end of it, we were ready to put our feet up and enjoy a nice cuppa by way of reward!
