Let her take you on the tour of the place she now calls home, Moretonhampstead...... |
I had visited Devon on holiday several times and found I was increasingly drawn to it. Luckily, I have the kind of work that can be based virtually anywhere (most of my business communication is electronic) so, a few years ago I took the rather rash decision to swap the flat fens of Cambridgeshire for the dramatic hills of Dartmoor - and I've never regretted it! Not only is Moretonhampstead prettily set on the Eastern slopes of the Dartmoor National Park, it is also a place with a real sense of community - something I really value. | Julia loves shopping in the vilage and meeting friends |
Although a relative newcomer, I know so many people I can never go shopping in the main street without saying 'hello' to at least a dozen friends! I have always been made to feel welcome and have enjoyed getting involved in local events such as the annual fireworks display (always a special 'themed' event!) and revelling in the town's famous Carnival and procession. Moretonhampstead is located in almost the exact geographical centre of Devon, making it an ideal base to explore not only the beauty of Dartmoor, but also the rest of this wonderful county. It has a population of around 1500 and the central part of the town stands at an altitude of 700 feet, rising to beyond 1100 feet in parts of the parish, giving spectacular views of the surrounding area. | Continue your tour of Moretonhampstead | |
