"Gee, this is so neat, I just love it"
"What an utterly charming little place you have here"
Comments from tourists about Chagford usually come in this form. New visitors to the town are delighted to discover this quaint little community that appears to be unaffected by modern pace.

Market House
The Market House in
Chagford Square

Bishop's House dating back to 1261, the fifteenth century church, the ancient market house that sits in the Square, locals greeting one another by name and passing the time of day with basket in hand as they meet on the pavement.

A people-watcher's paradise
The bell chimes the hour and the postman walks his round. A chance for true people-watchers to see a working Dartmoor town go about it's daily business.

Two of the shops here have been trading for the past hundred years. Handed down through generations, Webbers & Sons is well known in the catering world as the place that stocks absolutely everything you need for cookery.

James Bowden and Son, its next door neighbour is a truly old fashioned ironmongers, where you'll find everything from new shoelaces to replacement oil lamp fittings. Nails and screws come in "however many you fancy" and you can ask for 18 inches of electrical flex without the blink of an European eyelid.
