St Boniface students deliver the news

Students at St Boniface's Catholic College in Manadon Park, Plymouth, worked non-stop on Thursday 13 March 2008, to produce the news for the BBC's School Report project.

The 'newsroom' at St Boniface's was a hive of activity on School Report day, as students prepared and delivered the news.

The project is run each year by the BBC for students aged 11-14, to help encourage them to consider how the news can impact on their lives.

In 2007, St Boniface's won the Schools Herald Team of the Year award, which helped engage the students in this new venture.

Joining over 280 schools across the UK, the the students in Years 7, 8 and 9 have been working hard, training to be top journalists, carrying out interviews and producing reports.

Ex-teacher and BBC News presenter, Huw Edwards, lent his support to the project.

He says: "Having been a teacher and run many journalism workshops in schools, I've seen how much fun it can be and how much can be learnt when there are real deadlines, real audiences and real standards to meet."

It was a lot of work for the 20 members of the group, but well worth it, says lead teacher Paul Scott: "The students have worked really hard and come up with some great stories.

"I'm so proud of their hard work - they're great little reporters!"

The students were pleased to hear that Mr Scott will be continuing to work with them on news projects which will include a weekly bulletin delivered over the college website and its network of flat screens around their campus.

"I can't wait to be a reporter every week- it's like being famous," said 12-year-old Curtis Damerell - who wrote a special report on the extreme weather we've been experiencing this past week.
