Top Devon band Muse are celebrating after being honoured again for the quality of their live performances. The trio from Teignmouth were nominated for three awards but missed out on Best British Group and British Album. They lost out to the Arctic Monkeys on both of these but did walk away with British Live Act though, the gong they won in 2005. | | Matt Bellamy |
They fought off Robbie Williams, George Michael, Guillemots and Kasabian in a fame filled billing. Amazingly, singer Matt Bellamy's first thoughts were about taking the award from Williams, taken into rehab this week. "Yeah, I felt upset by that because I kind of feel like he's in bed, he's a bit jaded you know," said Bellamy. "He's obviously having a hard time and so maybe this would have been a little pick-me-up for him. "I feel bad on that front but he's won a fair few hasn't he, let's be honest, he's probably won about twenty or something so I think hopefully he won't miss this one!" Muse gained more critical acclaim in 2006 with some of their best performances as they continued to cement their position as a festival favourite. | | The cover of Black Holes and Revelations. |
They headlined at the prestigious Reading and Leeds Festivals and also took the South West by storm headlining the annual Eden Sessions. Muse also have the honour of being the first band to play at the new Wembley Stadium when it hopefully opens later in 2007. The band's new album Black Holes and Revelations hit number one in the album charts, their second number one album after Absolution in 2003. On the singles front the most successful was Supermassive Black Hole which topped at number four, Starlight and Knights Of Cydonia reached 13 and 10 respectively. Black Holes and Revelations was also nominated for a Mercury Music Prize, another award which eventually went to the Arctic Monkeys. |
