The cast in The Hollow
Whodunnit? A scene from The Hollow

Agatha's works return to the stage

By Laura Joint
A new theatre company has been launched to stage the works of Torquay-born crimewriter Dame Agatha Christie...and its first production, The Hollow, comes to her home town.

The works of Torquay-born Dame Agatha Christie are being brought to life, with the creation of a new theatre company.

Agatha Christie Limited have joined forces with top West End producer Bill Kenwright to launch the Agatha Christie Theatre Company.

And, fittingly, the first play to be staged - The Hollow - is coming to the Queen of Crime's home town, with a six day run at the Princess Theatre, Torquay, in September 2006.

Before that, The Hollow was also staged at the Queen's Theatre, Barnstaple, in May 2006.

It marks the end of a four year embargo on the professional presentation of Dame Agatha's work.

Her grandson, Matthew Prichard, is chairman of Agatha Christie Limited and is thrilled about the new theatre company.

"We are delighted to be joining forces with Bill Kenwright to present these first class new productions of my grandmother's work," he said.

"Her plays remain as enduringly popular as ever, and, as part of the major rebranding of her work in all media, which my company is currently undertaking, we are thrilled to be a part of this initiative to ensure her plays are presented in productions of the high quality which they deserve."

The Hollow is a typically devious and witty thriller, in which murder is committed and everyone has a motive.

Sir Henry and Lucy Angkatell invite a group of friends to spend the weekend at their country home, called The Hollow.

However, the simmering tensions between their guests explode into murder....and it's anyone's guess who is the guilty party!

The production stars Kate O'Mara and Tony Britton, as well as Tracey Childs, Gary Mavers, Chloe Newsome, Fiona Dolman and Ben Nealon.
