| | | | | | Title:Bus Station Christopher is a modernist who disagrees with plans to re-develop Derby's Art deco bus station. He takes us on a tour of the bus station before it's demolished. He says its replacement - Riverlights - is the wrong development in the wrong place at the wrong time.

This taken away from the influence of the old uninviting bus shelters would be a very tasteful piece of history preserved perhaps as suggested a derby history gallery or coffee house. This could well attract a wealth of visitors to service the new shops and hotels of Riverlights. Tom, Derby The bus station is dangerous, dirty and outdated. Stop being sentimental over a piece of concrete that is embarassing to our city. Sue from Derby. As I was born and brought up in Derby (still living here)the Derby bus station was an integeral part of my teenage years. It was a valuable meeting place and always a hive of activity.I have spent many a happy time going no further than the bus station and the adjacent market.I will be sad too see it change from the busy, friendly and beautiful lines as will always be Derby bus station. Alice, Derby I'm new to Derby and very excited about the Riverlights project. At first, I didn't really see why people would want to save the bus station because it is ugly. But after watching Christopher Bentley's video, I would very much like to see the main building saved. It is indeed a rough diamond. But, I think that Mr Bentley should focus his argument on saving the art deco building itself and not the rest of the station outside. He will lose his fight if he does not do this. The outside terminal is cold, uninviting, dark, dangerous and not at all practical for today's public transport needs. It will eventually go - if not in this redevlopment, then the next. However, the art deco building is worth saving and would make a lovely art gallery or coffee house.
