Celebration was the theme for the 2002 concert: 50 years of the Queen's reign, 25 years for Derby as a city and Derby Cathedral's 75th anniversary.

The weather could not have been more perfect as crowds flocked to the city's Darley Park to celebrate in style and bask in the afternoon sun.

The event also featured a new piece of creative dance put on by the Derby Dance Centre and showcasing the talents of 40 young people from the community.

And, as always, the event was rounded of by a spectacular fireworks display accompanied by Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture and Elgar's Pomp and Circumstance No 1 (Land of Hope and Glory).

Wonderful music (even though the quiet peices were a little hard to hear - hint for the ressurrection of the mid hill speakers), the fly past made our day, but please, please, please better organisation for the exit. We happily paid our £5 to park in the designated car park. When we arrived there were attendants in abundance; when we left, and after waiting for nearly an hour, we saw ONE!!!! Where had they all vanished? Had someone eaten them?

This is the first year we attended the darley park concert, we thoroughly enjoyed the evening, the music and the fireworks. We hope to be able to attend next year.

First time attendence at the Darly Park concert was in all spectacular from the Music ,Fly past, and Fireworks. The only downside being the exit, Dark, very crowded, cars, and pedestrians(some in wheelchairs, some not very steady on their feet) all scrambling for the same bit of ground, scary to say the least. If the same sot of good organisation was applied to the exit i am sure most people would feel a lot more comfortable

Darley Park concert [1.9.02] - apart from the concert+fireworks the fly-past by the Spitfire was just awesome. What a wonderful sight and sound; truly British! Well done Derby and RR.

I am a member Notable Company, one of the two choirs that took part in the Darley Park concert last Sunday evening. Like your other contributers I and my fellow choir members also had a brilliant evening. We got a really positive feedback from the audience after the choral numbers and I thought the orchestra were particularly good with Greensleeves and the 1812.

It sounded just as good behind the orchestra as in front of it. Just a thought though, perhaps a transparent roof or a mirror next year so that the performers can enjoy the excellent fireworks as well ... As for the encore, well I think we were ready for it.

We had a great evening at Darley Park but thought that more patriotic music would go down better so that all ages could have a good sing song and create an even better atmosphere.

I would also like to see more walkways on the fields because you are so close to your neighbours that once you are seated you can't get out without a struggle. i.e going to the toilets. I found getting back to my seat after taking the children to the toilet was very frustrating!!! But the overall concert was well planned and very enjoyable!!

It was good. My only criticism - why was the sound system used last year, withextra speakers half way up the hill, not used this year ?? On the quieter pieces, it was impossible to hear - sopeople chattered, which simply made it worse !! Otherwise, excellent.

The Concert was wonderful - each year is more spectacular than the last. The crowd is well behaved and friendly - a credit to Derby (I have been attending these concerts for many years now, I have never seen even a suggestion on unruly behaviour)

Only suggestion - next year please can we have an encore - all the shouting, clapping, and cheering needs to have a result it sort of ended in a rush. But above all, thank you for a wonderful evening. We had friends with us from afar and I was well proud to belong to Derby.

Just wanted to make a suggestion on last night's end of concert. I felt that there should have been security persons showing the way out of the park since it was rather dark. A thought for future events.

We had a fantastic time at the Darley Park concert on Sunday night. It was a brilliant, friendly, patriotic atmosphere. My only comment would be that I would have loved an encore of Land of Hope and Glory. May be next year eh...?
