 | | An impression of the Clifton Road development |
The site of the former Nestlé factory has been falling into disrepair since the closure of the factory in June 2003. The adjacent floodplain between the factory and Mayfield Road has also remained unused for some time. Developers Cedar House Investments have submitted a planning application to Derbyshire Dales District Council to redevelop the entire area which was approved by councillors in December 2005. Where is it? The 36-acre site on the western edge of Ashbourne is bordered by Clifton Road, the A52 and Mayfield Road. What will change? The former Nestlé factory will be completely demolished to make way for the development. However, Nestlé has retained an area of the of the site for access to the borehole which allows the extraction of Ashbourne Water from the spring. The factory will then be replaced by: - Housing - consisting of starter homes and "affordable accommodation"
- Non-food retail space
- Business units - incorporating both industrial and office accommodation, available for rent or purchase
|
In addition, the adjoining 15-acre area of unused open space will become available for community use, including: - Shrovetide Monument - complete with plaque outlining the history of the game
- Shrovetide Trail - leading through open countryside and (possibly) linking to the southern end of the Tissington Tail near to the Ashbourne Leisure Centre.
- Sports pitches - including a permanent football pitch for use by Ashbourne Town and youth football teams
- Tennis Courts
- Picnic area
- Car parking facilities - including off-street parking for the residents of Mayfield Road.

What will it look like? Use the link below to see artist's impressions of the plans and an aerial view of the project. When will it happen? Cedar House hopes to start work on the redevelopment early in 2006. The project will take two to three years to complete. Other information The chairman of Cedar House Investments is Peter Gadsby, a local businessman who grew up in the Ashbourne area. The developers hope the plans will help Ashbourne retain existing shoppers and attract shoppers and businesses from other areas. |
