New toilet facilities, a restored and re-modelled boating lake, a new hospitality area big enough for three marquees and the restoration of the grade II listed glass house are just some of the projects being funded by Chesterfield Borough Council and the heritage lottery. There are several car parks surrounding the park, all of which can be used for a small charge. Somersall ParkSomersall is a small residential park located slightly off the beaten track. As well as having playing fields and an activity area, Somersall Park also has recycling facilities located in the car park. Hunloke Community GardenHunloke is a community garden created on an old derelict field by the locals. It is now a fully operational nursery growing vegetables and plants for sale. The community garden has become a haven for wildlife, birds, butterflies, hedgehogs, wildfowl and pond life. The garden is clearly signposted from the main road (brown tourist information signs). Pools Brook Country ParkPools Brook Country Park was once the site of the former Ireland Colliery, but has been transformed from dereliction into a tremendous country park and amenities area. Chesterfield’s newest and largest park comprising lakes, woodland, meadows and wetland. It is managed to encourage bio-diversity, contains a potential Local Nature Reserve and attracts a wide range of migrating wildfowl. A Community Café operates at the visitor centre.
