It is a popular attraction in Matlock, with recreational facilities including tennis, miniature golf, a miniature railway, bowls, a children's play area complete with paddling pool and a small boating lake. The park is located in the centre of Matlock and is currently going through a complete regeneration programe. The bandstand has been restored to its former glory and a new bowls hut is being erected. As well as the restoration, a skate park and a new wet and dry playground are being built. The miniature train and boating shed will remain as they are. Catherine Booth, co-founder of the Salvation Army was born in the town in 1829 and a statue commemorating her life stands in the memorial gardens. Set on the banks of the River Manifold, the park offers views towards Dovedale. With regular special events, wooded walks and rolling countryside, Ilam Park can be appreciated by everyone.
