What do you do when your time isn't taken up with cricket? During the season it's pretty much cricket full-on but off-season we get the opportunity to do other things so I've set up some sports camps with a business partner of mine and I do work for a mortgage company as well. Also off-season I try to keep fit and spend some good time with my family and friends - just try to relax a little bit. Footballers always seem to play golf. Yeah I don't mind a bit of golf. I'll give any sport a go to be honest. Are you a gym junkie? I have to admit I am. I do pride myself on keeping fit and I find that if I don't do a lot of work in the off-season, at some point you've got to do the work and it's more painful if you haven't done any. So I just try to keep myself ticking over all the time. But aren't wicket-keepers able to carry a few extra pounds? I think the game's changed and these days you can't afford to do it. Our schedule's extremely hectic and I've got to contribute with glove and bat and do my duties as captain too. If I'm not in top physical shape then I won't last the season. I don't want to miss any games. I want to end my career knowing I've played as much cricket as I possibly could. How do you relax at home. Are you into movies or music? I'm definitely a movies person. I enjoy a good thriller - a good murder thriller. Tom Cruise, Al Pacino, Robert De Niro are all good. Probably the best film I've seen in recent memory is Jerry Maguire. That's a hit film with me. Are you someone who can watch the same DVD again and again? Yes probably but that's because I often fall asleep on the sofa in the middle of it! I have to watch it a few times to get the lot. Who do you room with on away trips? Well now that I'm captain I get to room on my own which is quite a privilege. Prior to that I mixed and matched a little bit. It's always a fun part of travelling picking who you room with and seeing if you have the same sleeping habits. Who are the characters at Derbyshire? Paul Havell is a massive character - a hilarious bloke. He's mad as a hatter! Hasan Adnan's a great character in his own little way. Steve Stubbings is a very funny guy. Then you've got Graeme Welch as well who's our old campaigner and he's got a fantastic sense of humour. Is it a good life being a professional cricketer? Fantastic life - absolutely top of the world. I wouldn't swap it for anything and I'm desperate to play for as long as I can because I love the lifestyle so much. Do you fancy yourself for an England call-up? Yes I do and realistically I don't think I'm that far away. I'm a wicket-keeper who can bat and if I have a good summer I'm quite optimistic about my chances. As a wicket-keeper it can be hard to get in the side because just like with a goal-keeper in football you can have someone ahead of you who's established. But if you're knocking on the door and putting pressure on then you can perhaps get on the winter tour as number two and then with a bit of luck find yourself in the side. And can any other Derbyshire players be thinking about a call-up? Yeah I hope so. It's about time Derbyshire produced more players that were represented at a higher level.
