Kořeny: to read, to try, to swim
Z některých sloves se mohou stát podstatná jména: a read, a try, a swim

I can really recommend this book to you: it’s a very good read.

I know you don’t think you’ll be good at skiing, but at least you should have a try. It’s so hot today.

I think I’ll go down to the river and have a swim.

Tuhle knihu ti můžu doporučit, je to opravdu počtení. Stojí to za pokus. "Zaplavání".

Další příklady: My friend invited me to her house for dinner the other evening. I wasn’t very hungry but I was so pleased to see her.

I had just a taste of food and a sip of something to drink and then we had a good long talk right into the night. (chuť, doušek, řeč)

Rada: Tato slovesná podstatná jména se často vyskytují v obratu se slovesem have: A lot of verbs can also be used as nouns.

You will often hear or read these nouns used with ‘have’: such as have a read, have a sip, have a try, or have a go.
