Kořeny: qualified, privileged, staffed Předpona: under nebo over Výrazy: over qualified, underprivileged, understaffed
I spent ten years at university getting several different degrees and now I find I am overqualified for all the jobs I am interested in. My friend has gone to work as a volunteer to help underprivileged children who need everything from enough food to a good education. I had to wait for a very long time at the post office – apparently they are very understaffed because ten people are away sick. Když přidáme předponu over, zanemená to: příliš moc, a naopak předpona under znamená: příliš málo. Další příklady: underestimate, overdressed, (podcenit, příliš slavnostně oblečený) Rada: opakem slov s předponou over jsou slova s předponou under. Most words which have the prefix ‘over’ have an opposite word with the prefix ‘under’. Cvičení 1. I couldn’t get a job as a dental surgeon because I am ..... 2. There is a lot of food left over because I completely ..... 3. The company is losing money because it is seriously ..... Řešení 1. Underqualified. I am underqualified 2. I completely overestimated 3. The company is overstaffed. |
