Přidáme-li ke slovesu částici on, k původnímu významu slovesa přibyde: akce pokračuje, nekončí.

Částice off má zase co do činění s začátkem pohybu, začátkem cesty.

Další příklady (s pohybovými slovesy): to drive off, to go on, to fly on (vyjet - vyrazit, pokračovat v cestě, pokračovat v letu).

Rada: off a on mají spostu různých významů: ‘On’ and ‘off’ have several different meanings. If you are in doubt, always check thoroughly in a dictionary. Sometimes it is better to look up the word before ‘on’ or ‘off’.
