Digital Story

Playing Your Song - Sam Oliver-Watts

Please tell us about yourself.
My name is Sam Oliver-Watts. I am a film and literature graduate, freelance film critic, part-time chain store dogsbody, full-time stacker. Will work for Pringles.

What's your story about?
Male insecurity. Paranoia, pride, shame, elitism, pubs, jukeboxes, tunes - all human life is here.

Why did you choose to tell this particular story?
I was intrigued by the role of jukeboxes in British pub culture, and the way that insecure males such as myself take pride in our elitism and regard cheesy tunes with paranoia an suspicion as though they were something to be ashamed of. The irony is, a few more pints and none of this nonsense matters.

What was the experience of making your digital story like?
Nothing bad to say. The BBC staff and fellow budding storytellers were all friendly and supportive. I learned many sorely needed technical skills and Playing your Song makes me laugh. Many thanks to one and all.
