| | May 2004 Thursday 20 May 8pm Company Chordelia Double Bill Play On! Inspired by images of travelling players of the past and small scale touring of today, Play On! takes a comic look at the ups and downs of a band of touring performers and celebrates the passion which drives the tour bus. Meet the troupe who mended the costumes, folded the programmes, put up the posters, bickered over the last doughnut, swept the stage and dashed on stage to perform with bounce and vigor. Saturday Night Divas Choreography by Kally Lloyd-Jones Join the divas of Company Chordelia for a mad romp around the dance floor. Descending into the space, they twirl and stomp their way through a night of extraordinary moves in eclectic styles & their surprising partners are rather thrown... the girls are on a night out. But what would that be like if women were simply stronger than men, and they got to do all the fun stuff? In the world of Saturday Night Divas, the women are strong, commanding, mischievous & vulnerable. Dancers combine with life-size rag dolls for a mission impossible - or not? Music includes: James Brown, Bee Gees, Africando, Crystal Gayle, Debussy £9.50/£8.50conc/£8fob* Friday 28 May 8pm Jasmin Vardimon Dance Company present Lullaby
"It's rare to stumble upon a young dance-maker whose work has the reach, skill and intelligence of Israeli-born Jasmin Vardimon. She's one of the most promising discoveries." | Donald Hutera, Time Out |
Recipient of the prestigious 2000 Jerwood Award for Choreography, Vardimon's work is powerful, unusual and often startling. This latest work 'Lullaby', eloquently displays Vardimons dark humour, character studies, use of interactive video projections and detailed movement vocabulary. Set in a hospital environment, Lullaby presents a clever, disturbing insight into our relationship with health and sickness, in a production that is sometimes violent, frequently moving and engaging. Jasmin Vardimon is a Yorkshire Dance Partner. Lullaby is funded by Arts Council England, commissioned by Lichfield Garrick, Welsh Independent Dance and Esmee Fairbairn, co-produced with the Laban Centre and supported by The Place Choreodrome Contains strong language and violence.
