Lowick village is just outside the Lake District National Park, south of Coniston Water and Windermere There's been a primary school in Lowick since 1856 There are just two classrooms - one for infants and one for juniors The Headteacher, Shirley Rainbow, joined the school in 1985 and loved it so much she's still there 20 years later Most pupils go on to secondary education at Ulverston Victoria High School, or the John Ruskin School in Coniston Lowick New School opened its doors on 1st September 2004 The Lowick and Blawith Educational Trust was created by the local community and runs the New School There are 19 pupils at Lowick New School Lowick New School is independent, non-fee paying, and relies on its own fundraising and support from Co-operative Action Musician Rob Ellis, a former pupil, worked with the schoolchildren to produce a fundraising song on CD called "Be Somebody Today". |
