As artist Peter Rickman struggles to recover from his injuries, a fall from the roof while he's being questioned lands hit and run driver Dave Hooman in Kingdom Hospital, too. Though Natalie Rickman is unaware that he put her husband in the hospital, a shortage of space lands Hooman in the same recovery room. Meanwhile, still smarting over Hook's ordering an MRI for Mrs. Druse, even as the self-proclaimed psychic is preparing for a séance with the hospital's terminally-ill patients, Stegman looks to have her released as soon as possible.

Although Hook claims that the MRI suggests a problem, Stegman insists that the expensive diagnostic tests prove that Mrs. Druse is a hypochondriac. And when Stegman orders Hook to come with him and tell her that she's being released, they find Mrs. Druse and her son Bobby in the middle of their séance. Meanwhile, a seemingly unconscious Peter Rickman watches as his hospital roommate is killed by the Antubis.

Over Hook's objections, Dr. Stegman insists that Mrs. Druse be discharged. As Hook is helping her gather her things, Mrs. Druse tells him that the spirit of a child is haunting the hospital and that an evil has awakened in the building that she's never detected before. And when she persuades him to check on top of an elevator, Hook finds the doll that once belonged to the ghost child, Mary. Finally, when Hooman's corpse is brought to the morgue for an autopsy, Elmer Trask uses the occasion to woo Dr. Lona Massingale.
