Aside from the Radio series, TV series, Books, Computer game and three stage productions, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy has a few other offspring. There was a Hitchhiker's towel available, which had the relevant extract from the guide handily woven into it.
The series was also released on LP in the early 80s. For those of you under the age of 20, these were large black plastic discs that made noise when you dragged a needle across them.
A few other snippets of Hitchhiker's literature also exist. Some have been published as prefaces to collected editions of the Hitchhiker's novels.
Douglas also wrote a short story 'Young Zaphod Plays it Safe' that appeared in a Comic Relief book, a charity with which Douglas was involved. In this clip, Douglas is taking part in an attempt to break the world interview speed record during the launch of Comic Relief in 1986.
