Scottish rockers Idlewild

Wild time at the Godiva Festival

Find out more about the 2009 Godiva Festival, which takes place from Friday, 3 July – Sunday, 5 July.

The annual free festival, which is held at Coventry’s War Memorial Park, will again play host to some of the best in live music and entertainment.

Headlining the main rock stage on the Saturday will be Scottish band Idlewild. Other groups include The Twang, The 80's Matchbox B-Line Disaster, and the newly re-formed Toploader.

The Twang

The Twang

The guys from Eastbourne split five years ago, but are back together and will be treating the Coventry crowd to old favourites, such as Dancing in the Moonlight and Just Hold On, as well as some of their new material, which they hope to release in 2010.

The finalists of the Godiva Unsigned competition will also be gracing the main stage throughout the day. They are Just Morale, Echo Empire, Haunted by Humans and The Satin Dolls. Local act Pint Shot Riot will also be hoping to wow the masses.

There’s more music on the Sunday when singer-songwriters such as The King Blues and The Austin Francis Connection play the main stage.

As always there’s also folk music in the Rhythm Tent. Many local bands will be playing such as Harvey, Dave Swarbrick and Kev Dempsey and Meet on the Ledge.

Blow Monkeys

There will also be fun and foot tapping with The Clarkesville Mountain Band who have their own style of country, hillbilly and skiffle.

Comedy tent

But why not get the weekend started with a good laugh in the Rhythm Tent. The comedy stage will feature Jason Wood, Cole Parker, Jimmy McGhie and Carl Donnelly.

Alternatively, it's also back to the 80's on the opening night when the main stage welcomes Go West, Womack and Womack and The Blow Monkeys.

Carnival procession

With the carnival procession, the fairground, events in the arena and stalls throughout the weekend, there’ll be lots for all the family to enjoy.

The procession is always one of the highlights of the Godiva Festival weekend - filled with colourful costumes, characters and funny floats.

Volunteers are still needed for the procession, so if you would like to join in call 024 7615 8323 or e-mail: info@imagineerproductions.co.uk.
