Big up the Blaze

Pupils from Lyng Hall School reported on the League triumph of the Coventry Blaze and asked whether they should get an official Civic Reception. Read about what they got up to...

We are from Lyng Hall and have been writing about Coventry Blaze as part of the School report project between the BBC and our school.

We came into BBC Coventry & Warwickshire and researched news stories on the computer. Aaron researched local news, Tom researched school news and Natalie researched celebrities. We next had a meeting with our editor David Clargo to talk about which stories would be best to report on. It was decided that story concerning Coventry Blaze winning the league title would be of the best interest.

It was decided that Aaron would research the rules of ice hockey, Tom would research questions and Natalie would look into finding a bus for the team to have a tour in.

Tom interviewed sports reporter Geoff Foster, who commentated at the Coventry Blaze game at the skydome arena. Tom asked Geoff about how he thought the game went.

We went to the Coventry Blaze club shop where Aaron interviewed Luc Chabot, the Assistant Coach of the squad. Aaron interviewed Luc about how he thought aboutwinning the league.

We went around the city precinct and Natalie got vox pops from members of the public based on their thoughts about the success of the team and whether they deserve any recognition.

Aaron and Tom recorded the rules of ice hockey whilst Natalie interviewed Eugene Egan from West Midlands Travel about borrowing a bus.

Meanwhile Natalie interviewed a Coventry Councillor about holding a civic reception for Coventry Blaze and helped our mentor Heather edit for the radio.

Tom most enjoyed taking pictures, Aaron most enjoyed working in the studio, Natalie most enjoyed going out and interviewing.

Because of everything we have learnt we would like to go see Coventry Blaze play.
