Love was in the air at the BBC Coventry & Warwickshire offices on Valentine's Day as we helped more than 20 local couples renew their marriage vows. I Do, I Do, I Do saw the couples pampered from beginning to end of the very special Valentine's Day, which we hope they will remember forever. The day started at 9.30am when our couples arrived at the BBC Coventry & Warwickshire offices to have their hair and make up done professionally. Louise Ransberry, a professional wedding make up artist, took extra special care with the cosmetics while top hairdresser Kevin Murphy of Kevin Murphy International of Nuneaton - who has done Vogue covers, no less - took care of the coiffing. The couples were then be presented with flowers, button holes for the chaps and corsages for the ladies thanks to Travey Tomlinson of the Tomlinson Flower Company, before they headed to the Cathedral. Archdeacon of Coventry Mark Bryant led a fantastically moving service for the couples, who were watched by family and friends, before they moved across to the Cathedral ruins for photographs. | | Our couples share kisses in the ruins |
After the ceremony, the couples will arrive back at our Open Centre, to be greeted by toastmaster Rueben Lynch, before they enjoy a Champagne reception. The couples who joined us were: Derek & Pauline Court of Wyken The couple, who met at a youth club in Stoke Heath, celebrated their 30th anniversary with us. They married on Valentine's Day, 1976 at St Albans Church, Barras Heath. John & Jayne Canning of Leamington They met through friends and were married at Warwick Registry Office in 1981. They wanted to renew their vows in Church as they weren't able to when they were first wed. Greg & Jacqui Docker of Walsgrave | | John and Margi Gossage at the reception |
The couple sadly never really got a chance to celebrate their wedding, which took place in 2003, as Jacqui's brother Jason was seriously ill with cancer. Jason made it to the ceremony and impromptu reception but sadly died just four days after the wedding. Graham & Rita Cullimore of Mount Nod The couple met at the Irish Centre 2000 in Coventry and married on 3 August 1999 in Cyprus - where it was just the two of them. They wanted to take their vows again in the company of family and friends who missed out last time. Bob & Christine Dhammi of Coundon The Chesford nightclub in Kenilworth was where Bob and Christine met and since then they have had three weddings! The first was a Hindu ceremony in Coventry before they 'married' again at a registry office in the Caribbean and then at the cathedral with us! Victor & Jennifer Morris of Coventry Victor and Jennifer met when they were just 17, when she was a nurse and he was an ambulance driver. They have been together since and celebrated their Ruby anniversary with us. David & Brenda Jessop of Tile Hill They met at an RAF hospital in Lincolnshire and braved wartime restrictions to get wed in 1945! They celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary last September. John & Margi Gossage of Leamington | | Karen and John Glen enjoy the day |
John and Margi had known each other and lost touch before they were reunited where they worked. They fell in love again and were married in April, 1981 with family and friends by their sides. Nick & Helen Smith of Wyken Nick and Helen married in 1998 at Coventry Register Office and enjoyed a fantastic day which produced loads of photos. However, their daughter Ellie, aged three, can't understand why she's not in the pictures! Ellie took centre stage at the second wedding, as you can see by looking at our picture gallery! John & Karen Glenn of Wyken It was so cold when John and Karen got spliced on Valentine's Day, 1987, that they gave guests a warming bowl of soup on their arrival at the reception instead of a glass of wine! Thankfully it wasn't so cold second time around. John & Iris Hardy of Holbrooks | | John & Iris Hardy on their wedding day |
John & Iris Hardy married at Coventry Register Office in October, 1942 - just before the Blitz. They were the couple who had been married longest at I Do, I Do, I Do but that didn't stop John being the day's biggest party animal! Tina & Roger Palmer of Earnsford Grange They met on a blind date and married in July, 1973. They wanted I Do, I Do, I Do to rekindle the romance they enjoyed 32 years ago. Graham Black & Margaret Anderson-Black of Lubenham Graham and Margaret are another couple who met on a blind date - and Margaret was aged just 14! The Coventry kids married in 1962 and wanted to re-affirm their commitment on that special day. Dennis & Joyce Hoffman of Coventry | | Cutting the cake at I Do, I Do, I Do |
The couple married at St Michael's Church in Coventry in 1952 after they met at the GEC Ballroom. It was Joyce's 76th birthday on Valentine's Day and renewing their vows was the perfect celebration. Gary Allsopp & Michelle Devoisey -Allsopp of Coventry They were married at St Laurence's Church in Coventry after Gary proposed at the top of the Empire State Building in New York on Valentine's Day. The couple separated briefly at Christmas but want to show the world and each other that they're now as solid as ever at the ceremony. |
