Earlier this year we ran a design-a-mascot competition. We wanted to have someone (or should that be something) to follow in the footsteps of the likes of Pudsey Bear and the legendary Sky Blue Sam and become the face of our brand new station which launches in September. We were inundated with bright, colourful and creative suggestions and after weeks of deliberation our judges finally plumped for young Georgia from Coventry’s design of Mr Colin T. Woodpecker. Check out a selection of the mascot designs we received for the competition by clicking on the link on the right. We think they were all brilliant. | | Colin the Woodpecker |
The selection panel agreed that what stood out about Georgia’s design was he was dressed in the Sky Blue of Coventry’s football team and even had a medallion to show his support for Micky Adams’ side. There were three spires on Colin’s cap and of course his initials C and W - Coventry and Warwickshire! Georgia also gave her reasons as to why she decided on her woodpecker creation. She said: “I chose a bird because it can fly over Coventry and Warwickshire”. | | Georgia is all smiles with her brothers |
Georgia was presented with her prize by the editor of BBC Coventry and Warwickshire (and one of the judges) David Clargo in front of her proud family at the new Open Centre in Priory Place. David said: "We're really excited about having our own mascot and the fact of one of listeners designed it makes it even more special. “Georgia will be able to meet Colin when our station has officially launched”. A new radio station BBC Coventry and Warwickshire hits the airwaves on Saturday, 3 September. You’ll be able to listen by clicking on the link on the right-hand side of this page or by tuning in to 94.8, 103.7 and 104fm or on DAB. |
