Coventry rocks for Tsunami fund

The creme-de-la-creme of local musicians gathered under one roof at Coventry's Colosseum for a Live Aid-style fundraiser in aid of the Tsunami appeal and what a night it was!

It was a night to remember. Almost 50 bands and singers came together at Coventry's Colosseum to raise as much as they could for the Asian Tsunami appeal and while they raised bucket-loads of cash, they provided Coventry music fans with a feast of entertainment.

The event was the organised by Colly boss Rich Elms who followed on from the efforts of Rob Halligan, the Coventry musician who organised the recording of Stand Together, a single featuring scores of local artists, as part of his bid to raise £10,000 for victims of the Boxing Day earthquake.

There was a veritable smorgesboard of music styles, with heavy rock, indie, psychedelia and folk and it wasn't easy to organise, but the end results had a clearly emotional and exhausted Rob beaming with delight.

Elms managed to book enough acts to fill the three rooms of the giant Primrose Hill Street venues from 5pm until 12pm.

The main room was home to the likes of The Four Kings, Thoria, Jesus Deluxe and Dragster, while Scarlet Phere, The Sequins, Lowdrive and The Circle graced the Left Wing.

Upstairs in the Globe Bar, Rob made his first appearance of the night in acoustic session and was joined on the bill by Declan Bennettb (aka Sumladfromcov), Beneva, Simon Hayden and others in what was a fantastic evening of jamming, audience participation and some precarious dancing on chairs!

No matter how much you were enjoying the music, however, the night was all about the money and the fabulous finale, an ensemble version of the charity single Stand Together sung by virtually everyone that appeared during the evening, brought it all home.

Initial estimates put the total raised on the night at between £3,000 and £4,000. The final total will be announced towards the end of the week.
