It's still not too late to catch some of the many feative productions on in our local theatres. A number of productions continue right through to the middle of January. Bedworth Aussie soapstars seem to be as much a part of the pantimime now as the dame. Bedworth Civic Hall proves the rule this year by hosting Neighbours star Lucinda Cowden (Melanie) in Peter Pan. | | Lucinda Cowden as Peter Pan in Bedworth |
Lucinda is no stranger to panto nor to Peter Pan, having starred in several, but she told us she was particularly excited about performing alongside Captain Hook and stupid Smee in Bedworth. Peter Pan, by the Pantoni theatre company, runs until 4 January. Visit the website for more info. Stratford Audiences in Stratford have another chance to see the 2003 smash hit Beauty and the Beast as it has returned to the RST for a second Christmas running through to 16 January. | | Goldilocks and the Three Bears |
The timeless French fairy tale, directed by Laurence Boswell, is a real departure from lavish festive plays and is instead a pared-down classic, a feast for an audience prepared to use its imagination. It first aired last year and after a hugely successful run, the RSC has ressurected it for this year. Coventry Things are a lot more traditional at the Belgrade where Coventry's regular dame Andy Hockley returned to the stage in Sleeping Beauty. | | Jungle Book at Warwick Arts Centre |
The traditional panto, put together by the team behind last year's Cinderella, tells the tale of a beautiful young princess put to sleep by a wicked witch. Who can save her from her slumber? And how many laughs will Andy's costumes bring? Sleeping Beauty continues until Saturday, 15 January and should provide a real Christmas treat! |
