A surfer at the 2008 event

September Surfers

Young surfers will take to the waves battling it out for the highest rated event on the UK Pro-Surf tour. The Oakley XPY 2009 competition has four categories catering for all hungry groms under 16 years of age.

Newquay's Fistral beach - the capital of the country's surfing locations, host the pro-junior event. This year it has stepped up to a two star rating, making it the highest rated event on the UK Pro surf tour.

There are four categories: Under 12's, Under 16's, Under 16 girls and Pro Junior.

Last year's winner Tom Butler

There's a prize for a particular manoeuvre. £250 will be given to the person who performs the biggest Ally Oop Aerial.

The competition aims to seek out potential surfing champions of the future. Last year's winner, Newquay's Tom Butler, is achieving good results in adult classes against some of the country's top surfers. He's also become the English National Champion.
