Lisa and Abi at Lusty Glaze

Living on the edge at Lusty

In the spirit of 'trying anything once' led to a day spent living on the edge (literally) for BBC Cornwall's Abi Harper and Lisa Woodruff at The Adventure Centre at Lusty Glaze beach near Newquay. Check out our video.

Bad weather and sloppy surf didn't dampen our enthusiasm at the prospect of spending a day fuelled by adrenaline down at Lusty Glaze.

Check out the extreme video from Lusty Glaze in the links section on the right of this feature.

We were determined, if a little yellow bellied. Gentle persuasion by the instructors and knowing the threat of pure humiliation which faced us back at BBC towers, dragged us kicking and screaming (lots of this! - see the footage) through the activities.

Zip wire

First up, was the Zip Wire. After a steep climb the side of the cliff we finally arrived at a platform looking out over the length and breadth of Lusty Glaze beach. The zip wire is attached here disappearing off into the distance and attached on the other side of the cliff face.

Here we were strapped up in our safety harness' and our instructor Paul (of Demi Moore and Hello Magazine fame) ran through the safety checks with us. It was here that we really started to panic. With our hearts in our mouths and our legs shaking we were hoisted up and in front of the gates overlooking a huge precipice. Then the gates were flung open and after the primary school countdown, we leapt from the ledge and screamed our heads off.

It's faster than we expected, and higher but hey, if a 72 year-old can do it and children as young as two can do it, we had to give it a go. The most scary part of it is simply throwing yourself of the cliff edge, but after that accompanied by the screaming, it's such a rush. After abseiling down to the beach we were so pumped that we ran up the steps for a second go. This time the camera came down with us.

Surf's up

Occy aka Paul, head lifeguard and all round surf guru, took us out on the water for our surf lesson. Abi hadn't really surfed before so we stayed pretty close in. She did fantastic, and stood up pretty much on her second wave. Lisa had surfed before but was still a novice. She still took to the waves like a pro and got a few belters. While Abi was washed up in the white water, Occy took Lisa out back, further than she had ever been before and caught her biggest wave, (well they looked huge from where she was sitting) which took her all the way into the beach.

After all that adrenaline overload, we were in need a very stiff drink.

Thanks to Claire, Paul, Dave and Occy for taking such good care of us.
At the Adventure Centre, Lusty Glaze you will push your personal boundries and step outstide your comfort zone but be in completley safe hands. Well worth a visit, in fact we have already planned to go back again.
