In 1991, the duo wrote for Radio 4's On the Hour, for which they conceived the character of Alan Partridge.

The following year they created and performed in Lionel Nimrod's Inexplicable World, and then Fist of Fun in 1993.

That show transferred to television, cementing their status as a double-act. However, their subsequent series, This Morning With Richard Not Judy was their last TV work together.

Splitting amicably with Lee, Herring has since written the critically acclaimed one-man show Talking Cock and penned Al Murray's Sky One sitcom, Time Gentlemen Please. He also worked as script editor on the third series of Little Britain.
