Rich Hall

The inspiration for Moe Szyslak in The Simpsons, Rich Hall was born in Waxhaw, North Carolina, USA in June 1954.

A prolific writer and performer, he contributed to numerous US series including Fridays, Saturday Night Live and The Late Show With David Letterman.

Moving to the UK, he picked up a stand-up slot on Jack Dee's Sunday Service in 1997 and worked on The 11 O'Clock Show.

In 2000, he won the Perrier Comedy Award at the Edinburgh Festival, in the guise of grizzled country singer Otis Lee Crenshaw. Under Crenshaw's name he's released several albums and penned a bogus memoir.

He's starred in Rich Hall's Fishing Show and Rich Hall's Cattle Drive for BBC Four, and has become a regular face on the comedy panel game show circuit, being given the job of responding to the 9/11 tragedy on Have I Got News For You in 2001.
