Johnny Vegas

Beauty's Castle. Johnny Vegas will always be a legend in the halls of Room 101's production office for his terrifying, sad yet weepingly funny confession on national TV of his addiction to the aforementioned chatroom.

Famously shambolic and at times just drunk, part of the thrill of watching Vegas is to see just how far his strange rants will go and still be charming and funny.

Sometimes it doesn't work, most of the time it does.

Vegas was a fixture on Shooting Stars, and few seem immune to his odd charm – even Anne Robinson melting when confronted with his hangdog expression on The Weakest Link.

After comedy vehicles such as Night Class and Ideal, his 'serious' acting break came in Happiness, in which he was, perhaps surprisingly, instantly compelling and believable. Other parts have followed in Bleak House, A Midsummer Night's Dream, and The Libertine.

Unafraid to admit his faults and problems, possessor of the strangest but most compelling style in comedy, and a man of hidden depths, Johnny Vegas is a true modern hero.

If nothing else, you've got to be special to get Charlotte Church to slap you.
