GrahamChapman Although often cast in the more straight-laced roles (the stuffy Colonel exhorting the team to "stop that, it's silly", the leads in The Life Of Brian and The Holy Grail), Graham Chapman was perhaps the most offbeat of the Monty Python team. He met John Cleese at Cambridge University and together they wrote for David Frost and Marty Feldman amongst others, before becoming Pythons. He was notoriously frustrating to work with, yet capable of inspired moments of genius. Post Python, he served as a mentor to Douglas Adams and penned the self explanatory A Liar's Autobiography, as well as appearing in ill-fated big screen vehicles The Odd Job and Yellowbeard. A qualified Doctor (who rarely practised) and campaigner for gay rights; his career was blighted by alcoholism He died of complications from cancer, aged just 48, the day before the 20th Anniversary of Monty Python's first broadcast.
