AdrianEdmondson![]() Adrian Edmondson was born in Bradford in 1957 and studied at Manchester University where he met Rik Mayall. They started performing live comedy (as 20th Century Coyote) before founding their own troupe and venue, The Comic Strip (cohorts included Peter Richardson, Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders, who Edmondson subsequently married), which led to The Comic Strip Presents …: self contained comedy films, the first of which premiered on Channel 4's opening night in 1982. Edmondson played the punk Vyvyan in The Young Ones for the BBC and he and Mayall capitalised on their brand of anarchic, violent comedy by hitting each other with frying pans a lot in Bottom (which they also toured live). The pair acted on stage in Waiting For Godot and Edmondson has published a novel, The Gobbler. He also scored success on Comic Relief Does Fame Academy and secured a straight acting role in Holby City.
